Osun Holds Annual Adire Festival as Gov Adeleke Enrols as Chief Creative Officer

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, on Monday, December 30, 2024, officially took on the role of Chief Creative Officer during the recently held Adire Osun Festival. 

In a historic move, the governor logged into the Osun State Creative Data World Platform, marking the commencement of data capturing for creatives across the state.

Addressing attendees during the event, Governor Adeleke urged all creatives in the state to register on the platform for detailed profiling, which would enhance access to government support and patronage.

"This initiative aims to position Osun State as a leader in creativity and culture, ensuring our talents receive the recognition and support they deserve," Adeleke said.

The festival also featured the unveiling of the official logo for the Adire Osun Festival, symbolizing the state’s commitment to promoting its creative industries.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Tunde Laface, a veteran in Nigeria’s creative sector and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Creative Economy, Events, and Entertainment, highlighted the festival's significance.

"Entertainment and creativity played a pivotal role in Governor Adeleke’s emergence as Nigeria’s most outstanding and popular governor. The Adire Osun Festival is poised to transform Osun into Nigeria’s entertainment and cultural hub," he stated.

Mr. Laface also proposed that the Osun State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, enact legislation to institutionalize the Adire Osun Festival as an annual event. He emphasized that such a move would maximize the festival's cultural and economic benefits.

Governor Adeleke reinforced this vision, announcing that the Adire Osun Festival would now hold annually, beginning in 2025.

"As the Chief Creative Officer of this initiative, I am committed to ensuring the Adire Osun Festival becomes a yearly tradition that showcases the creativity and rich culture of our state," the governor affirmed.

The 2025 festival will feature several activities, including the Adire Osun Ambassadors Launch, Adire Osun Fashion Couture, Omodan Adire Competition, Adire Osun Export Summit, and the Adire Osun Street Carnival.

To further celebrate Osun’s cultural heritage, the Adire Osun Carnival will showcase costumes and accessories made from vibrant, indigenous Adire fabrics, reflecting the state’s rich tradition.
