Donald Trump Sworn in as 47th U.S. President, Pledges a New Era of Leadership

On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump was formally sworn in as the 47th President of the United States during a grand ceremony held at the U.S. Capitol.

This inauguration marked a historic political return for Trump, who had previously faced multiple legal challenges and felony convictions. Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath of office, with Trump's running mate, JD Vance, taking the oath as Vice President.

Trump’s address outlined a vision of restoring America's strength on the world stage, emphasizing what he termed the "golden age" of the nation. In his speech, he said, “From this day forward, our country will thrive. We will be the envy of the world once again. We will prioritize the interests of the American people and will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer.”

He stressed his commitment to putting "America First" and vowed to dismantle what he described as a "weaponized" justice system.

The newly sworn-in president also announced a series of executive actions, the most significant being a national emergency declaration concerning the U.S.-Mexico border and efforts to reform immigration laws.

Trump’s administration plans to take a tough stance on illegal immigration, including measures aimed at ending birthright citizenship.

In a significant move preceding the ceremony, outgoing President Joe Biden issued a series of pardons, including for members of his family and Leonard Peltier, an indigenous activist convicted in the 1975 killing of two FBI agents. Biden's actions were seen as an attempt to shield his family from ongoing political scrutiny.

Biden stated in his final remarks, "My family has faced relentless attacks from those seeking to harm me. This is an attempt to end the partisan politics surrounding my administration."

The inauguration ceremony also featured prominent figures such as Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Reverend Franklin Graham, who offered prayers for the success and safety of the new administration.

Cardinal Dolan prayed for the nation's healing, while Reverend Graham prayed for wisdom and guidance for President Trump, emphasizing unity and strength.

Trump’s inauguration ceremony was a demonstration of the peaceful transfer of power, a core tenet of American democracy.

Senator Amy Klobuchar, the chair of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, underscored the importance of the occasion, stating, "Today marks not only the beginning of a new presidency but the continuation of our country’s democratic traditions."

With this new chapter in U.S. history, President Trump’s administration promises significant shifts in policy, including strong stances on immigration, economic reform, and international relations.

The day's events concluded with a stirring performance of "America the Beautiful" by country music artist Carrie Underwood, as the nation turned its attention to the challenges and opportunities ahead under Trump's leadership.
