...begins Construction on Sango-Ijoko Road

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced that construction will commence immediately on the 17-kilometer Sango-Ijoko road, with the project divided into two sections to accelerate its completion.

The Governor also revealed that the 3.25-kilometer Alagbole-Ajuwon-Akute road in Ifo Local Government Area would be ready for commissioning by the end of February 2025.

Abiodun made these announcements while inspecting ongoing road projects in the Ifo 2 State Constituency.

“About four months ago, we were here in response to concerns raised about the deplorable state of roads in Ifo 2, particularly Alagbole-Ajuwon, Denro-Ishashi-Akute, Ajuwon-Akute, Ijoko-Sango, and Lambe. I promised to return within a few months to commission these roads, and here we are today,” the Governor stated.

Providing updates, he said, “The Alagbole-Akute road is completed and 100% ready for commissioning. The Ajuwon-Akute road, which spans 3.25 kilometers, is ongoing and will be fully completed by the end of February 2025. For the Sango-Ijoko road, we have an outstanding 17 kilometers, and we have decided to divide it into two sections of 8 kilometers each to speed up the work.”

The Governor further disclosed that he had instructed the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure to identify the worst-hit portions of the Sango-Ijoko road and commence immediate construction. According to him, the government will engage residents in determining the priority sections for repair.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to the area, describing Ifo 2 as a vital constituency due to its proximity to Lagos. “This constituency is of extreme importance to us; it is our border community with Lagos State".

"There is a lot of cross-border migration, and it is important to make that experience as pleasurable as possible for the citizens. That is our 100% commitment,” he said.

Abiodun also urged residents to maintain the roads, stressing the need for them to be used responsibly to ensure durability.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Ifo Community Development Committee (CDC), Alhaji Akangbe Olatunde, praised Governor Abiodun for his efforts in addressing the infrastructural needs of the area.

“The Governor has brought joy to the people of Ifo Local Government with the ongoing construction of the Ajuwon-Akute road,” he said.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Hadijat Adeleye, commended the Governor for alleviating the suffering of the people in Ifo 2, which she said had been neglected by previous administrations.

“We have gone through so much suffering in this area; we have seen a lot. We are bordered by Lagos, yet we had nothing to show for it. But God sent someone—Governor Dapo Abiodun—to give us succour and lift our spirits by bringing us out of the dust we were known for in Ifo 2. We are most grateful to him,” she said.
