A 25-year-old man, Isaac Akinola, was on Thursday arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly conspiring with others to beat a 30-year-old man, John Kome, to death.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olalekan Adegbite, told the court that the offence was committed on November 20 at about 10:00 a.m. in Ogbomoso. Adegbite alleged that Akinola and others conspired to assault Kome, leading to his death.
“This is a case of conspiracy and murder. The accused conspired with others to beat the victim, resulting in his death,” Adegbite said, adding that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The presiding magistrate, Oluwabusayo Osho, did not take Akinola’s plea, citing the court's lack of jurisdiction over capital offences. She ordered the police to forward the case file to the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
In her ruling, Osho directed that Akinola be remanded in custody pending further directives. She adjourned the case to February 19, 2025, for mention.
