The Ogun State House of Assembly today celebrated its annual Carol of Nine Lessons with a call on Nigerians to embody the virtues of selflessness, love, and sacrifice, as exemplified by Jesus Christ.
In his Christmas message, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, emphasized the essence of the season, urging individuals to embrace its values. This came shortly after he read the Ninth Lesson from Hebrews 1:1-12 during the service held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Elemide stated, “Love, giving, and selflessness are among God’s expectations from the righteous. God does not want anyone to perish but desires for humanity to enjoy the foundational plan He designed for us, which was lost in the Garden of Eden.”
He also called on leaders across various sectors to prioritize the welfare of the people, saying, “Leadership requires sacrifice. We must always strive to serve selflessly. As we celebrate this season, I encourage Nigerians to do so in moderation and to approach issues with calmness and understanding.”
The Speaker assured Assembly staff of improved welfare programs in the coming year, attributing this to the collaborative efforts of the lawmakers.
Earlier, Pastor Femi Ogbontigba, the officiating minister from the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Ogun Province 15, described Jesus Christ as the ultimate counsellor and guide who remains merciful in all matters.
He urged Christians to maintain their faith in Christ, stating, “Jesus is ever willing to guide us. We must remain steadfast in Him, knowing that He brings hope and direction in every circumstance.”
In his welcome address, the Coordinator of the Assembly Christian Chapel, Mr. Olanrewaju Olonade, encouraged Christians to rejoice in the assurance that Christ provides. “This season reminds us not to live in fear but to celebrate the joy and hope that Jesus Christ brings,” he remarked.
The event featured readings of various lessons by notable members of the Assembly, including the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi, and lawmakers Hon. Oluseun Adesanya, Hon. Babatunde Tella, Hon. Damilola Soneye, and Hon. Musefiu Lamidi.
The carol service concluded with renditions of hymns and prayers, creating a reflective and joyous atmosphere in celebration of the season.
