A Chief Magistrate Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, has ordered the remand of three prominent individuals connected to the tragic stampede that occurred at Bashorun Islamic High School last week.
The court ruling, issued on Tuesday, involved Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, the principal of the school; Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, the proprietor of Agidigbo FM; and Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ile Ife.
The three defendants were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi, who presided over the session amid heightened security outside the courthouse. The public interest in the case was evident, with family members and other concerned individuals gathering around the court.
The accused are facing four charges related to the stampede, as outlined by the police prosecutor. The charges stem from violations of Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
In the course of the proceedings, Chief Magistrate Ogunkanmi ordered that the trio be remanded at Agodi Correctional Centre while awaiting further instructions from the state prosecutor.
The Oyo State Police Command has been actively investigating the tragic event, which led to several lives being lost. Authorities have expressed their determination to ensure justice for the victims and to hold accountable those whose actions may have contributed to the incident.
