Police Arrest Over 30,000 Suspects, Seize 1,984 Firearms in 2024

In a significant announcement, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force successfully arrested 30,313 suspects involved in various crimes across the nation throughout 2024.

The IGP made the revelation during an end-of-year review meeting with Commissioners of Police and senior commanders in Abuja, highlighting the Force's achievements in tackling crime.

"Throughout 2024, the Nigeria Police Force has made considerable strides in combating crime, leading to the arrest of over 30,000 individuals for a range of criminal activities," Egbetokun remarked. "In addition to this, we recovered 1,984 firearms and over 23,000 rounds of ammunition, which is a testament to the hard work of our officers on the ground."

During the meeting, which was held at the Goodluck Ebele Peacekeeping Hall, the IGP further noted that 1,581 victims of kidnapping had been rescued by the Force, underscoring its commitment to safeguarding citizens.

The IGP expressed appreciation for the dedication of police officers who, he said, had demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring peace and security across the country. "The collaboration between the police and the public has been instrumental in these successes," he added. "Trust-building efforts are crucial in our fight against crime, and we must continue to work together in creating a safer environment for all."

Looking ahead, Egbetokun outlined plans for 2025, which include prioritizing innovation and the use of modern technology in crime prevention and investigations. "We will continue to adapt and evolve our strategies to ensure we stay ahead of emerging security challenges," he emphasized.

As the country approaches the festive season, the IGP assured the public that the police force is ready to take all necessary measures to maintain peace and ensure a secure holiday period. "We are committed to ensuring the safety of all Nigerians and will not relent in our efforts to keep our communities safe," he said.
