Ogun Assembly Summons Education Leaders, Pays Tribute to Onanuga, K1's Mother

The Ogun State House of Assembly has directed the leadership and management teams of the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), the Technical and Vocational Education Board, and the Civil Service Commission to appear before it for discussions aimed at addressing pressing issues in the education sector.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, issued the invitation during Tuesday’s plenary session, specifying that the officials, led by Commissioner Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, should appear on Thursday, January 23, at 2:00 p.m.

"The Assembly is determined to address gaps and improve the quality of education in Ogun State. This engagement is to ensure that all relevant stakeholders are held accountable and that necessary policies and actions are implemented to enhance the sector,” Rt. Hon. Elemide stated.

In another development, the Assembly paid glowing tributes to the late Deputy Chief Whip of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, and Alhaja Halimat Saddiyah Anifowose, mother of the renowned Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde (K1).

Speaking on the life and contributions of Hon. Onanuga, lawmakers described her as a dynamic and selfless leader whose representation brought meaningful development to Sagamu/Ikenne and Remo North Federal Constituency.

"She was a rare gem, a true bridge between generations. Her humility, generosity, and dedication to public service left an indelible mark on her constituents," said Rt. Hon. Elemide.

Deputy Speaker Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi added, "Her sudden death is a monumental loss, not just to her constituency but to the entire nation. Filling the vacuum she left behind will be a daunting task."

Similarly, the Assembly extolled the virtues of Alhaja Anifowose, describing her as a devoted mother and a pillar of strength for her family. "She lived an exemplary life of accomplishment and grace, raising a family that has significantly impacted society," Hon. Lukman Adeleye noted.

The session concluded with a minute of silence observed in honor of both Hon. Onanuga and Alhaja Anifowose, as lawmakers emphasized the enduring legacies of the two departed figures.
