“No Hope in Sight”: PDP Slams Tinubu’s New Year Speech

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2025 New Year Day address as a self-congratulatory exercise devoid of empathy for the pressing challenges facing Nigerians.

According to the opposition party, the speech confirmed its stance and the opinion of many Nigerians that the Tinubu administration lacks the capacity to address the nation’s worsening economic and social crises.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP accused the President of delivering a speech that failed to provide solutions to the hardships caused by his administration’s policies.

“The New Year address was nothing but self-satisfying posturing, which further validates the notorious fact that this APC-led administration is disconnected and unconcerned with the suffering of Nigerians,” Ologunagba stated.

The PDP expressed disappointment that the address lacked a clear direction or actionable solutions for critical sectors such as petroleum pricing, food production, electricity, and road infrastructure.

“Despite calls from our party and well-meaning Nigerians, the President ignored the need for specific measures to reduce fuel prices, tackle widespread hunger, and revive our ailing productive sector,” the statement read.

On the contentious issue of fuel pricing, the party argued that with transparent and innovative resource management, Nigerians should not be paying over N350 per liter.

“If the APC administration truly had the interest of Nigerians at heart, it would have outlined definite steps to address this. The absence of such measures speaks volumes about its insensitivity and incompetence,” Ologunagba added.

The PDP further criticized Tinubu’s claim that Nigerians had placed their confidence in his leadership. “That assertion is not only ludicrous but also shows how disconnected the President is from the reality of his abysmal perception among the populace. Nigerians have moved on and are eagerly awaiting the next elections to put an end to this nightmare,” the party asserted.

While urging the President to reconsider his approach, the PDP emphasized the need for a leadership focused on the welfare and security of the people.

“We counsel President Tinubu to redeem his image by addressing the insensitivity of his administration, listening to the voices of Nigerians, and prioritizing governance over self-praise,” the statement concluded.
