Two persons lost their lives while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries in separate accidents on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday.
The crashes, which occurred at different locations along the busy route, involved multiple vehicles and were attributed to factors such as speeding and loss of control. Eyewitnesses at the scenes described the incidents as harrowing, with victims struggling for survival before the arrival of emergency responders.
According to the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, the first crash happened at KM 28 near the RCCG camp, while the second occurred near the Kara Bridge.
Okpe confirmed the casualties, stating, "We recorded two fatalities and four injuries from the two crashes on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway today. The accidents were avoidable if drivers had adhered to speed limits and exercised caution."
She further noted that the injured were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue in Sagamu.
"The command is again advising motorists to drive carefully, especially during periods of increased traffic. Safety remains our top priority," she added.
