Former Rivers Senator Emerges Ohanaeze Ndigbo Leader


The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has elected Senator John Azuta-Mbata as its new President-General. The election took place during a stakeholders' meeting held in Enugu on Friday.

Azuta-Mbata, a former senator representing Rivers East in the National Assembly, emerged victorious following the withdrawal of former Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, who was also in the race. Both Azuta-Mbata and Okiro hail from Rivers State.

Prominent Igbo leaders and governors attended the meeting, underscoring its significance. Among the dignitaries present were Governors Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Alex Otti of Abia State, Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, and the host governor, Peter Mbah of Enugu State. The Ebonyi State governor was represented at the event, alongside former Senate President Adolphus Wabara.

Commenting on the election, an insider at the meeting stated, “This marks a new chapter for Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Senator Azuta-Mbata is a respected leader who understands the challenges and aspirations of the Igbo people worldwide.”
