Trailer Crash Causes Heavy Gridlock on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The Lagos State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists and commuters to exercise caution following a trailer accident that caused significant traffic congestion on the Kara Bridge, Berger, along the Ibadan-bound section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

According to reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when a trailer loaded with containers toppled over, narrowing the lanes and obstructing traffic flow. The resulting gridlock has disrupted movement on the busy road, affecting both directions.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Lagos Sector Commander, Kehinde Hamzat, the FRSC emphasized the need for motorists to remain calm and avoid actions that could worsen the situation. "We remain committed to ensuring the safety of all road users. We urge the public to cooperate with traffic officials on the ground and avoid actions that could worsen the traffic situation," the statement noted.

The agency further highlighted that some impatient drivers compounded the problem by driving against the traffic flow on the Lagos-bound side, thereby creating additional disruptions.

The FRSC, in collaboration with the police, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and other traffic management agencies, has initiated efforts to clear the fallen trailer and restore normal traffic. Hamzat assured the public that the agency has "deployed professionals and mobilized the necessary recovery equipment to remove the fallen trailer and ensure a return to normalcy."

To minimize delays, the FRSC urged motorists to consider alternative routes where possible. The statement added, “Postpone non-essential trips where possible to ease traffic congestion. Exercise patience and caution to ensure safety during this period.”
