Tinubu Presents N47.9 Trillion 2025 Budget as Senate Extends 2024 Budget

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has announced that the lifespan of the 2024 budget will be extended to June 25, 2025. He made this known on Wednesday during his opening remarks at the presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the National Assembly.

Akpabio disclosed that the 2024 budget achieved 50% performance for capital expenditure and 48% for recurrent expenditure. "Given these figures, the extension allows for more effective utilization of the approved funds," he said.

President Tinubu was at the joint sitting of the National Assembly to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill, which proposes a total expenditure of N47.9 trillion. In his presentation, the President highlighted the government's plans to prioritize infrastructure, education, healthcare, and security in the coming fiscal year.

The Senate President assured Nigerians of the legislature's commitment to scrutinizing and passing the 2025 budget to ensure accountability and efficiency. "This extension is necessary to ensure that all ongoing projects under the 2024 fiscal year are completed without financial or administrative delays," Akpabio noted.
