The Media Office of Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West) has strongly criticized an article published by the online medium PenPushing, which claimed that Senator Adeola is a "fake indigene" of Ogun West.
The article, titled “Senator Adeola Solomon is a Fake Indigene representing Ogun West at the national assembly, says Anisulowo,” is based on a six-year-old interview and has been accused of spreading misleading propaganda for ulterior motives.
The statement, issued by the Media Adviser to Senator Adeola, Chief Kayode Odunaro, pointed out the absence of a byline in the article, suggesting that the publisher, Mr. Oladimeji Kayode-Adedeji, a seasoned journalist, should take responsibility for the content. "The writer must have been uneasy presenting this outdated propaganda as a current story," the statement said.
While the Media Office initially refrained from commenting on the interview, which was granted by Senator Iyabo Anisulowo in 2018, it has now decided to respond due to PenPushing’s disregard for professional journalism standards.
The statement emphasized that Senator Adeola had already disproven Anisulowo’s claims about his indigeneship during his successful campaign for the Ogun West Senatorial seat last year. He won the election with overwhelming support, proving that he is, indeed, a genuine son of Ogun West.
The Media Office further asserted that Senator Adeola’s tenure has brought significant development and empowerment to the district, surpassing anything claimed in the original interview. This includes major infrastructure projects, such as road constructions, benefiting even former Senators like Anisulowo.
The statement declared, "The development Senator Adeola has attracted has silenced any doubts about his eligibility and contributions."
The Media Office questioned the motives behind PenPushing’s decision to re-publish the outdated interview without clarifying its age, a decision that it sees as a violation of basic journalistic ethics.
"What is the intention of resurrecting a story that has been overtaken by events? The story has no relevance today," the statement concluded.
Senator Adeola’s office called for better adherence to journalism standards and ethics, urging media outlets to focus on accurate, timely reporting.
