Senator Adeola Commends Tinubu, Abiodun as Work Starts on 107km Ogun West Road

Construction work has officially commenced on the long-awaited 107-kilometer Ilara-Ijoun-Eggua-Oja Odan-Ilase road in Ogun West Senatorial District. The road project, facilitated by Senator Solomon Adeola in the 2024 budget, is a major infrastructural development that connects Nigeria’s border communities with the Benin Republic.

The road cuts across four local government areas—Imeko Afon, Yewa North, Ipokia, and Yewa South—linking various communities, including Ilara, Ata, Ijoun, Eggua, Oja Odan, and Ilase. Contractors have already mobilized to the site and begun construction on Section 1 of the project.

Expressing his excitement, Senator Adeola (APC, Ogun West) lauded President Bola Tinubu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for their roles in ensuring the project’s commencement. He attributed the synergy between federal, state, and senatorial levels for making the project a reality.

“The deplorable state of this road was a painful sight during my campaign tours. I saw vehicles and individuals completely covered in red dust, unrecognizable. It was pathetic, and I pledged to change this reality,” the senator stated.

Adeola emphasized the strategic importance of the road to Ogun West and Nigeria’s border development, saying, “This project aligns with the national development policy for border areas. Its completion will not only boost economic activities in Ogun West but also enhance cross-border trade and transportation.”

The project, divided into four sections for efficient execution, connects critical towns such as Ilara, Ata, Ijana Ketu, Ifonyintedo, and Eggua. Once completed, the road is expected to drive economic growth, improve transportation, and significantly enhance the livelihoods of residents.

Adeola expressed optimism that the road would be completed by 2027, stating, “This is a transformative project that will stimulate the economy of Ogun West and Ogun State as a whole. I am grateful to the President and my state governor for their unwavering support.”

Residents of the affected communities have welcomed the project, expressing hope for the benefits it will bring after years of neglect.
