Gabriel Jesus delivered a stellar performance, scoring twice to help Arsenal crush Crystal Palace 5-1 at Selhurst Park on Saturday. The victory lifted the Gunners back to third place in the Premier League standings.
The Brazilian forward, who had already netted a hat-trick against Palace in the League Cup quarter-finals earlier in the week, proved to be their nemesis once again. His two first-half goals brought his tally against Palace to five in just four days.
Speaking after the match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, celebrating five years at the club, praised Jesus' impact: "Gabriel was exceptional today. He’s a player who rises to the occasion, and his contribution was vital for us."
Jesus opened the scoring in the 6th minute, calmly finishing after a precise assist from Bukayo Saka. However, Palace quickly responded through Ismaila Sarr, who curled a stunning shot past Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya to level the score.
Arsenal regained their lead when Jesus struck again from a corner, guiding the ball in off the post. The Brazilian nearly secured a first-half hat-trick, but his header struck the post, allowing Kai Havertz to tap in the rebound.
Despite Palace’s efforts, including several dangerous chances from Sarr and Jean-Philippe Mateta, Arsenal's defense and goalkeeper Raya held firm. Declan Rice and Gabriel Martinelli added late goals to seal the emphatic win. Rice’s curling strike from the edge of the box in the 84th minute was the highlight of the second half.
Addressing concerns about Bukayo Saka, who limped off in the first half, Arteta assured fans: "We will assess him, but I believe it’s not serious. Bukayo is an essential part of this team, and we’ll ensure he recovers fully."
With this win, Arsenal sits just three points behind league leaders Liverpool, though the Reds have two games in hand. Arteta remains optimistic: "The best is yet to come. We’re pushing for the big trophies this season."
