Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called on the people of Ota and Aworiland to reflect on the values of unity and progress upheld by their ancestors as a foundation for building a greater Ado Odo Ota, Aworiland, and Ogun State.
He made the remarks during the 2024 Iganmode Day cultural festival held at Nawarudeen High School Sports Pavilion, Ota, where he also assured the people of more infrastructural development in the region.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun described Iganmode Day as a celebration of the identity, history, and resilience of the industrious Awori people, whose contributions have positioned Ota as a cornerstone of Ogun State's growth.
"This festival is a testament to the industriousness and dedication of the Awori people, which have made Ota a significant contributor to the state's internally generated revenue and GDP," he noted.
Acknowledging Ota’s importance as a major industrial hub, Abiodun emphasized that his administration recognizes the direct link between the prosperity of Ota and that of Ogun State.
"The presence of leading industries and thriving businesses in Ota has made Ogun the industrial capital of Nigeria. Our administration remains committed to addressing infrastructural challenges and creating an environment where businesses and individuals can thrive," he added.
The governor reassured residents of his commitment to improving critical infrastructure in Ado Odo Ota, noting ongoing work on the Ota-Abeokuta road, which had suffered years of neglect.
He revealed that discussions with the federal government and other stakeholders are ongoing to ensure the road’s comprehensive rehabilitation. "Significant progress has also been made on the Atan-Lusada-Agbara road, improving lives and boosting industrial activities. We are determined to deliver these projects to elevate the standard of living for the people of Ota," he stated.
Abiodun expressed gratitude to the people of Ota for their support during the last elections, which contributed to the All Progressives Congress's victory. "This partnership has provided a foundation for our administration to continue delivering good governance. We deeply appreciate the trust and confidence you have placed in us," he said.
The Olota of Ota, HRM Oba (Prof.) Abdulkabir Obalanlege, commended the festival for its role in promoting cultural awareness, infrastructural development, and economic growth in Ota.
"Iganmode Day has amplified our cultural consciousness and driven progress in various sectors. I urge all citizens to commit to fostering peace, unity, and progress in Aworiland," the monarch said.
In his address, Hon. Adewale Wasiu Lawal, Chairman of Ado Odo Ota Local Government, highlighted the festival’s purpose of uniting the sons and daughters of Aworiland while promoting its rich cultural heritage. He called on citizens to continue contributing to the development of the region.
Hon. Tunji Akinosi, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ado Odo Ota Federal Constituency, praised the Olota for his efforts to unite Awori traditional leaders, urging them to shun leadership tussles for the collective development of Aworiland.
As part of the festival, the Olota conferred honorary chieftaincy titles on notable individuals, including Hon. Tunji Akinosi as the Aare Bobagunte of Ota Kingdom, Chief (Engr.) Mufutau Olakunle Salako as the fourth Bashorun of Ota, and Chief (Mrs.) Adebola Taiwo Adekunle as the Erelu Obatunwase of Ota Kingdom.
The event featured cultural displays, musical performances, and homage paid to the Olota of Ota by families and groups, adding vibrancy to the celebration of Awori heritage.
