Abiodun Mourns Victims of Stampedes in Oyo, Anambra, FCT

• Condoles Makinde, Soludo, Wike Over Tragic Stampedes

The Chairman of the Southern Governors' Forum (SGF) and Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed deep condolences to the governments and people of Oyo State, Anambra State, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the tragic stampedes that occurred during food palliative distributions. 

The incidents, which claimed the lives of approximately 65 Nigerians and left several others injured, have drawn widespread grief and concern.

In his condolence messages to Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Charles Soludo of Anambra State, and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Abiodun described the tragedies as a heartbreaking reflection of the struggles faced by citizens in their pursuit of basic survival needs.

“These deaths are particularly painful as they highlight the harsh realities our people endure daily. It is deeply saddening that these disasters occurred at a time when families across the globe are preparing to celebrate the festive season,” Governor Abiodun stated.

Acknowledging the economic challenges plaguing the country, the SGF Chairman reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, alongside state and local governments, to improving the living standards of Nigerians. He emphasized the importance of collaboration to ensure that such tragedies do not reoccur.

Abiodun urged citizens to maintain calm and follow security guidelines during palliative distributions to prevent further loss of lives. “Deaths, such as these, diminish us as a people. We must all work together to ensure that relief measures reach those in need safely and effectively,” he added.

On behalf of his family and the people of Ogun State, Abiodun extended his sympathies to the families of the victims, the affected communities, and all Nigerians. “I commiserate with my brother Governors—Seyi Makinde, Charles Soludo, and Nyesom Wike—along with the families of those who lost their lives in these unfortunate incidents. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace,” he concluded.
