In a joint operation between Bauchi and Anambra State Police Commands, three abducted children have been successfully rescued. The children, identified as Sabo Salisu (3), Isah Abdulkadir (4), and Nana Khadija Zakariya’u (6), were taken from Gwallameji, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis, and sold for N2 million in Anambra State.
The abduction occurred in early December 2024, when a woman, who is still at large, rented an apartment near the victims’ family residence. According to reports, the suspect befriended the children’s families and lured the victims away under the pretense of buying them toys. She failed to return, raising alarm among the families.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, revealed that the rescue operation was made possible through a collaborative intelligence network involving security operatives in both states. “This operation underscores our commitment to combating child trafficking and ensuring the safety of our communities,” Mohammed said.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed concern over the increasing trend of child abductions and trafficking. “This is not an isolated incident. Just last year, seven children abducted from Bauchi were found sold in Kano. It’s a severe problem that requires urgent action,” he said.
Governor Mohammed commended the cooperation of the Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, in facilitating the safe return of the children. “We deeply appreciate the support from Anambra State authorities. Their intervention was crucial in this rescue mission,” he added.
The governor also emphasized the role of parents in safeguarding their children. “Parents must be vigilant and take responsibility for their children’s welfare and safety. We cannot allow such tragedies to continue,” he stated.
