The Ogun State Government has intensified efforts to revamp its technical colleges to attract more students and prepare them for global competitiveness.
The Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, stated that the ongoing rehabilitation of technical colleges aims to address the skills gap and equip students with the competencies needed to thrive in a modern economy.
Prof. Arigbabu made this known during an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation works at Government Technical Colleges in Idiaba and Isabo, Abeokuta.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress and quality of the work, the Commissioner emphasized that the initiative would significantly enhance students' learning experiences.
"The rehabilitation of these structures will not only improve the learning environment but also enhance practical skills, foster creativity, and provide a conducive atmosphere for academic excellence," he stated.
He further explained that the upgraded facilities would attract more students to technical education, increase their employability, and open doors to entrepreneurial opportunities in various industries.
"These colleges will play a vital role in empowering students with the technical skills required for today’s dynamic industries, making them more competitive both locally and globally," Prof. Arigbabu added.
Addressing female students benefiting from the Ogun Girls TVET scholarship, the Commissioner urged them to maximize the opportunity.
In a related development, the Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Hon. Adebola Sofela, lauded the government’s foresight in prioritizing technical education. He highlighted the alignment of the initiative with the government’s vision of creating a skilled workforce for local and international markets.
"This rehabilitation effort strengthens the link between education and industry, ensuring students acquire relevant skills to meet the demands of today’s economy," Hon. Sofela remarked.
