Nigeria Customs Service Receives Over 573,000 Applications for 3,927 Job Openings

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced receiving a staggering 573,519 applications for its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise, a testament to the significant interest in the agency's limited job openings.

This massive turnout follows the approval by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Olawale Edun, for the recruitment of 3,927 officers into various roles within the Customs Service.

With only 3,927 positions available, the recruitment process indicates that less than 1% of the applicants will be successful. This highlights the highly competitive nature of the exercise and the overwhelming demand for employment opportunities within the service.

Providing a breakdown of the applications, the National Public Relations Officer of the Customs Service, Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed that 249,218 applications were submitted for the Superintendent Cadre (General Duty), while the Superintendent Cadre (Support Staff) received 27,722 applications from HND and university graduates.

For the Inspector Cadre (General Duty), 115,634 applications were submitted by holders of NCE or National Diploma, with an additional 12,952 applications recorded for the Inspector Cadre (Support Staff).

The Customs Assistant (General Duty) category received 153,593 applications from candidates with basic five credit results, including Mathematics and English, while 14,400 applications came from candidates for the Customs Assistant (Support Staff) who did not meet the Mathematics and English requirement.

“The qualifications submitted range from secondary school certificates to university degrees, showing the broad interest in serving in the Nigeria Customs Service,” Maiwada stated.

The recruitment exercise now proceeds to the next stage, where candidates will be shortlisted for further screening. Maiwada assured that the process will be thorough, ensuring only the most qualified applicants are selected for the limited positions.

“We remain committed to a transparent and merit-based recruitment process that upholds the integrity of the Customs Service,” he emphasized.

The NCS has urged applicants to stay updated on the next steps in the recruitment process while reaffirming its dedication to selecting candidates who meet the required standards and qualifications.
