Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has reiterated the state government’s unwavering commitment to education, describing it as a cornerstone of Ogun’s development agenda.
Speaking at the 5th Combined Convocation Ceremony of Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic, Saapade, the Governor highlighted his administration’s efforts to equip students with skills to thrive in a dynamic world.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun stated, “Education is not just about acquiring knowledge or earning certificates, but about shaping minds, building character, and empowering individuals to make a positive impact on society.”
He noted that since May 2019, his government has prioritized education under the “Building Our Future Together” initiative.
He commended Gateway Polytechnic for its dedication to academic excellence and the production of skilled professionals who contribute meaningfully to society.
Addressing the graduands, the Governor charged them to apply the knowledge and values gained during their studies to solve problems, drive innovation, and create positive change.
During the event, Governor Abiodun presented cash awards of Two Million Naira each to the overall best graduating students for three academic sessions: Ifunaya Agu (2021/2022), Victor Omontuhen (2022/2023), and Suliat Yusuf (2023/2024).
The guest lecturer, Professor Abayomi Fashina, in a lecture titled “Polytechnic Education and the Future of Nigeria’s Economic Growth and Development,” emphasized the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in education.
He urged the institution to establish industrial hubs, collaborate with telecommunication companies, and encourage students to pitch innovative ideas to lecturers.
He encouraged the graduands to embrace challenges, remain focused, and strive for excellence, describing them as the future workforce of the nation.
The Rector of Gateway Polytechnic, Dr. Sanni Oseni, described the event as a celebration of excellence, noting that it marked the culmination of years of hard work and dedication by the graduands.
He congratulated the students on successfully navigating their academic journey and encouraged them to aim high in their professional pursuits.
In her valedictory speech, Suliat Yusuf, the overall best graduating student for the 2023/2024 session, expressed gratitude to the school’s management, lecturers, and non-academic staff for their support in nurturing future leaders.
She urged her fellow graduands to remain good ambassadors of the institution, set ambitious goals, and strive for excellence.
