Abiodun Approves Recruitment of 1,000 Amotekun Personnel, Warns Criminals

The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the recruitment of an additional 1,000 personnel into the Amotekun Corps to bolster security across the state.

The governor emphasized that Ogun State would not be a safe haven for criminals and pledged to strengthen the Corps' operational capacity with more patrol vehicles, electric motorcycles, communication gadgets, and other necessary tools.

Speaking at the passing-out parade of 690 Batch D Amotekun trainees on Saturday at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu, Governor Abiodun described the initiative as a significant step toward improving grassroots security and reducing unemployment.

“I am, today, approving the recruitment of an additional 1,000 Amotekun Corps members, bringing the total strength to over 2,000. This decision is based on your level of preparedness and commitment,” Abiodun said.

“We will also provide more logistics, including vehicles and electric motorcycles, to ensure you can discharge your responsibilities effectively.”

The governor highlighted the importance of the Amotekun Corps in complementing federal security agencies in tackling criminal activities in Ogun State.

He noted that the Corps members would patrol major roads and communities, ensuring enhanced security and peace.

Abiodun also commended the Corps for their discipline and training, urging them to avoid using their position to intimidate or harass residents.

“You are custodians of peace in our state. Use intelligence gathering and collaborate with traditional rulers to achieve effective community policing,” he advised.

The governor further expressed confidence in the Corps' ability to make Ogun State safer, stating, “This event sends a clear warning to criminals that Ogun State is not a place for their activities. I expect improved security across the state in the coming days.”

In his remarks, the Commandant of the Corps, Brig. Gen. Alade Adedigba (rtd), revealed that the trainees underwent intensive training in physical fitness, weapon handling, and intelligence gathering. He praised the state government for its unwavering support in providing resources, including uniforms and communication gadgets, while also highlighting the repair of patrol vehicles and motorcycles by the Corps.

He urged the new recruits to operate within the law and collaborate with other security agencies to maintain peace in the state. “Serve the people with renewed commitment and dedication, ensuring Ogun remains safe and secure,” Adedigba said.

The event also featured various highlights, including prizes awarded to outstanding teams in football, tug of war, and cultural displays, reflecting the trainees' physical preparedness and esprit de corps.

Governor Abiodun lauded the efforts of the pioneer Commander of the Corps for laying a solid foundation and encouraged residents to support the Corps by providing useful information to aid crime prevention and community safety.
