Yuletide: Kwara Police Ban Fireworks, Restrict Motorcyclists’ Movements

The Kwara State Police Command has placed a ban on the sale, distribution, and use of fireworks and other explosive devices throughout the Christmas and New Year celebrations. This measure aims to ensure public safety and prevent criminal activities during the festive period.

The State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, issued this directive in a statement signed by the command's spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi. He warned that anyone found violating the order would face legal consequences.

"The use, sale, or distribution of fireworks, bangers, and other explosive devices is strictly prohibited," Olaiya declared. "These items pose serious safety and security risks. They can create panic or even serve as a cover for criminal activities. Violators will be dealt with in accordance with the law."

The Commissioner also reminded residents that the restriction on the movement of motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles (Keke Napep) between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. remains in effect, emphasizing its role in curbing crime and enhancing public safety.

Olaiya further advised residents to avoid late-night travels, stay vigilant, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency. "We urge everyone to secure their homes and vehicles properly, especially when attending social gatherings. Keep emergency contact numbers handy and share them with your family members," he added.

The police command provided emergency numbers for reporting suspicious activities or emergencies: 08125275046 and 07032069501.

The Commissioner assured the public of heightened police presence across the state. "Our officers will be strategically deployed to ensure the safety and security of everyone during the festive period and beyond. We are committed to maintaining peace and order," he stated.
