President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, presented the 2025 budget proposal, amounting to ₦47.96 trillion, to the joint session of the National Assembly. The event, held in Abuja, was marked by a humorous exchange between the President and lawmakers that lightened the formal proceedings.
While delivering his address, Tinubu mistakenly referred to the current 10th National Assembly as the 11th. Legislators quickly corrected him, prompting a witty response from the President: “10th? I wrote 11th, which means you’re all re-elected.” The remark was met with laughter and applause from the lawmakers, easing the atmosphere.
Addressing the joint session, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to Nigeria’s economic recovery and growth. “In fulfilment of one of my constitutional duties and with an unyielding commitment to rebuilding Nigeria towards ensuring that we remain steadfast on a journey to a prosperous future, I hereby present the 2025 budget to the joint session of the National Assembly,” Tinubu declared.
The budget proposal, which focuses on key expenditure priorities for the year, will now undergo legislative scrutiny in subsequent sessions.
The President arrived at the National Assembly at precisely 12:14 p.m., where he was welcomed by lawmakers and senior government officials.
The presentation symbolizes his administration’s agenda for the coming year and served as an opportunity to outline fiscal strategies aimed at addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges.
Legislators and other officials expressed optimism about the proposed allocations, noting that debates over the ₦47.96 trillion expenditure plan would set the tone for implementing policies to drive development in 2025.
