The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two individuals, Eje Benson, also known as Kenny, and his accomplice, Ominiyi Austin, for their alleged involvement in the theft and fraudulent sale of a N1.3 million Bajaj motorcycle with the registration number DGB 629 VC.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday, revealing that the stolen motorcycle belonged to Francis Ayinde.
According to the report, one Akinola Musa, who had earlier handed the motorcycle to Benson for commercial purposes, lodged a complaint with the Ago-Iwoye Police Division on December 26, 2024.
Explaining the circumstances, Odutola stated, "Mr. Musa had entrusted the motorcycle to Benson in October under a weekly payment agreement of ₦25,000. However, Benson later claimed it was stolen from his residence."
Investigations uncovered that Benson, in collusion with Ominiyi Austin, sold the motorcycle to one Emmanuel Nwosu in Ijebu Ode for ₦800,000. The transaction was facilitated using forged documents, including a falsified phone number and signature.
SP Odutola disclosed further, "Benson fled to Benue State after paying Austin a ₦60,000 commission. However, through diligent efforts, the Ago-Iwoye Divisional Police Officer and his team were able to track and apprehend him. The stolen motorcycle has since been recovered."
The suspects are currently in police custody, and further investigations are underway. The police reassured the public of their commitment to curbing crime in the state, urging residents to promptly report suspicious activities to the authorities.
Odutola added, "The Crime Branch is thoroughly investigating this case, and additional updates will be provided in due course."
