Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, witnessed a tragic incident on Thursday as a truck crushed four individuals, including three police officers and a female suspect.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, while descending the Ore Bridge, lost control and rammed into a police vehicle. The collision caused instant fatalities, with the victims including officers from the Monitoring Unit of the Ondo State Police Command. The officers were reportedly on an arrest operation in the area, having left Akure, the state capital, earlier in the day.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, stated, "This is a deeply tragic incident for the Command. The affected officers were dedicated to their duties. We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine what went wrong."
An eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, narrated the harrowing scene: "The truck was coming at high speed, and it seemed like the driver had lost control. It hit the police vehicle parked on the roadside, and the impact was devastating."
In addition to the deceased, another police officer sustained severe injuries and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for urgent medical attention.
The Ondo State Police Command has since commenced an investigation to unravel the details leading to the incident and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
