Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after performing the lesser hajj (Umrah) at the Holy Mosque of Makkah (Masjid al-Haram) in Saudi Arabia. The Vice President’s visit to the sacred site included prayers for Nigeria's peace, stability, and progress.
A statement released on Saturday noted that Shettima’s supplications encompassed prayers for effective leadership at all levels of government, from federal to local tiers.
Shettima embarked on the spiritual journey following his official duties in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the commissioning and naming of a $315 million oil production and storage facility.
The facility, acquired by Oriental Energy Limited, is a fully Nigerian-owned oil and gas company and was commissioned on December 14, 2024.
After the Dubai event, the Vice President proceeded to Saudi Arabia, where he performed the Umrah pilgrimage in the holy cities of Madinah and Makkah from December 16 to 19, 2024.
During his spiritual exercise, Shettima was said to have focused on the nation’s challenges and prayed for divine guidance for its leaders. His prayers also sought blessings for Nigeria’s citizens amidst ongoing economic and social reforms.
