Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have gunned down Ikem ThankGod, popularly known as ‘General 2 Man,’ a notorious leader of a cult group linked to multiple heinous crimes in the state.
The deceased was infamous for orchestrating several cases of kidnapping and armed robbery across Ahoada-East and Ahoada-West local government areas.
Parading his remains before journalists at the Command headquarters in Port Harcourt on Thursday, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Mustapha Bala, described ThankGod as a "terror" to communities in the affected regions.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was responsible for numerous violent crimes, including the killing of a boat driver in December 2023 and the shooting of one SP Bello, a police officer, during a rescue operation for a kidnap victim named Adebayo,” Bala said.
The Commissioner further disclosed that the deceased had been involved in several other high-profile crimes, including the killing of a man from the South-East after collecting ransom, the snatching of a red Toyota Camry, the incessant vandalization of pipelines and other critical infrastructure, and the murder of oil company workers and a couple on March 5, 2024.
“He wreaked untold havoc on lives and properties, leaving many families in mourning,” Bala added.
The police also noted that ThankGod’s activities extended to sabotaging the oil sector, with his gang responsible for pipeline vandalization and the deaths of workers from oil firms.
According to CP Bala, the cases linked to ‘General 2 Man’ were under active investigation when he met his end during a planned operation to carry out yet another criminal act. "His reign of terror has finally come to an end, and Rivers communities can breathe a sigh of relief," he stated.
The Rivers State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating crime in the state and called on residents to provide useful information to aid their efforts.
