Remo Day: Gov. Abiodun Hails Development, Pledges Support for Grassroots Projects

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commended the people of Remoland for their remarkable achievements in agriculture, education, industrialization, and technology. 

Speaking at the maiden edition of the Remo Day celebration at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu, the governor highlighted the region's accomplishments and emphasized the importance of unity in achieving progress.

“Over the past years, Remoland has made significant progress, from advancements in agriculture and industrialization to breakthroughs in education and technology. These achievements highlight what a united and visionary community can accomplish," Governor Abiodun remarked. 

He further noted that Remoland's development is epitomized by its status as the host of the Ogun State Gateway International Airport and the Gateway Agro-Cargo Special Processing Zone.

The governor described the Remo Day celebration as a testament to the unity, resilience, and progressive spirit of Remoland. He expressed optimism that the event would evolve into a significant tourism attraction, drawing visitors from across the globe.

"Remo Day is a shining example of how culture can unite people and foster a sense of pride and identity," he said. "It holds a central place in our administration's agenda for tourism development and the socio-economic advancement of Ogun State."

Governor Abiodun assured attendees of his administration's support for Community Development Associations (CDAs) whose projects promote growth and development, emphasizing the importance of grassroots involvement in governance.

“As a government, we are committed to ensuring that all our citizens, especially those at the grassroots, are actively involved in the development process. We will continue to provide the enabling environment for community initiatives and self-help projects,” he stated.

The governor urged individuals, corporate organizations, and private entities to partner with the government in its "Building Our Future Together" agenda. 

He reiterated his administration's dedication to enhancing public service, infrastructure, and sustainable development while prioritizing the preservation of cultural and tourism potential for future generations.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbass, who chaired the event, underscored the commitment of the legislature to preserving Nigeria's cultural heritage. “The strength of a nation lies in the well-being of its people and the preservation of its heritage,” he said, calling on the people of Remoland to uphold the values of unity and collaboration.

Similarly, the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, praised Nigeria’s cultural diversity, citing the Remo Day celebration as a significant addition to the nation’s cultural festivals. “The establishment of the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy underscores the importance of culture as a driver for growth and national cohesion,” he said, urging the youth to embrace creativity and innovation.

The Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, reiterated the desire of the Remo and Ijebu people for the creation of a new state from the old Ijebu Province. 

He emphasized the need for fairness and equity in the process, stating, “The structure and shape of the new state must be deliberated to ensure transparency, equity, and equality.”

The monarch commended Governor Abiodun for his developmental strides and urged the people of Remoland to preserve their culture and maintain the region as an investment destination of choice.

The Remo Day celebration, held every December 27, aims to celebrate the unity, culture, and achievements of Remoland. The event featured cultural displays and was attended by dignitaries, including past governors, traditional rulers, legislators, and captains of industry.
