Prince Alexander Adewale Haastrup, a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and descendant of the Late Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Frederick Kumokun Adedeji Haastrup (Ajimoko I), has declared his candidacy for the vacant Owa of Ilesa throne.
Haastrup, who hails from the Bilaro Royal Ruling House in Ilesa, Osun State, explained that his decision was driven by a desire to contribute to the development of his community. “I joined the race because, as people with a common destiny, we need to come together and make our land of nativity a place of praise on earth. Nobody will come and fix the town for us. It is a challenge to us all,” he stated in an interview with The Guardian in Ilorin.
The 57-year-old prince emphasized his commitment to fostering unity, promoting economic development, and implementing empowerment programmes for the people of Ijesa land. “I want to uphold unity and harmony among Ijesa communities while prioritising economic growth and cultural preservation,” Haastrup added.
Outlining his plans, Haastrup promised to focus on cultural revival, infrastructure modernization, and human capital development. He further pledged to enhance education, empower the youth, and elevate Ijesaland’s economic prospects.
Currently serving as the Regional Administrator of RCCG and Pastor in Charge of a Zone in Delta State, Haastrup brings decades of professional and leadership experience. Before joining the RCCG, he worked across Nigeria as a manager, administrator, and accountant.
Haastrup holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration from Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Osun State, and an HND in Business Administration from Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State. He obtained his NYSC certificate in 2014 and is a recognized Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (ACIPM), alongside other professional affiliations.
It is noteworthy that Ilesa has four ruling houses: Biladu Ruling House, Bilagbayo Ruling House, Bilayiarere Ruling House, and Bilaro Ruling House—with Haastrup hailing from the Bilaro lineage.
With the Owa of Ilesa throne currently vacant, Haastrup’s entry into the race underscores his aspiration to blend traditional leadership with modern development ideals for Ijesaland.
“Through focused leadership, cultural revival, and inclusive governance, I believe we can achieve unprecedented progress for our communities,” Haastrup reiterated.
