Ogun Govt to Build 255 Housing Units, Targets N10bn Revenue in 2025

The Ogun State Government has announced plans to construct 255 housing units across various locations, including Kobape Phase IV, GRA Phase II, and Aviation Village Phase II, as part of its ongoing efforts to provide affordable and accessible housing solutions for residents.

The State Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Jamiu Omoniyi, revealed this while presenting the Ministry’s 2025 budget proposal before the House of Assembly’s Committee on Finance and Appropriation, chaired by Hon. Musefiu Lamidi, at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Omoniyi stated that the initiative aligns with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration's vision to cater to both the elite and middle-income earners while redirecting housing development from city centers. "This administration is committed to providing sustainable housing that meets the needs of our people while managing urban expansion effectively," he explained.

According to the Commissioner, the Ministry's proposed budget for 2025 stands at N6.28 billion, with N4.49 billion earmarked for capital projects and N1.78 billion allocated for recurrent expenditures. The broader Housing Project, however, has a total expenditure of N8.153 billion, comprising N704.9 million for recurrent expenses and N7.448 billion for capital investments.

“The expected revenue from housing projects next year is projected at N10 billion, which we believe is achievable given the strategic locations and demand for these developments," Omoniyi added.

In addition, the State Housing Corporation, represented by its General Manager, ESV. Wale Ojo, proposed a N5.766 billion budget, comprising N4.9 billion for capital projects and N886.4 million for recurrent expenses. The Corporation anticipates generating N8 billion in revenue during the same period.

Ojo emphasized that the housing initiatives are not just about revenue generation but also about creating a balanced urban landscape. “Our goal is to deliver well-planned residential areas that accommodate diverse income groups while boosting the state’s economy,” he stated.

Other ministries, including Works and Infrastructure, Agriculture, Urban and Physical Development, and the Bureau of Lands and Survey, also defended their budget proposals during the session, showcasing comprehensive plans to drive development across Ogun State.
