Nigeria on the Path to Progress Despite Critics, Says Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the country is on the path of progress despite criticisms of his administration’s economic policies and reforms.

Speaking during his maiden media chat on Monday night, Tinubu expressed confidence in the nation’s trajectory, emphasizing his administration’s strides in economic stability, security, and grassroots development.

“Nigeria is moving forward, regardless of critics,” Tinubu affirmed. “We have taken decisive steps to stabilize the economy, promote local government autonomy, and address national security challenges.”

Highlighting his administration’s achievements, Tinubu noted that debt servicing has been reduced, fiscal discipline improved, and revenue generation increased.

He pointed to the transition away from uncontrolled borrowings through the Ways and Means facility as a major step toward financial stability.

“I brought debt service down. Give credit, please. We are managing it,” he said, while also emphasizing the empowerment of local governments to drive grassroots development.

Tinubu lauded the Armed Forces of Nigeria for their dedication in tackling security challenges and emphasized the importance of investing in their welfare.

“We have a huge country with lots of forests and uncooked spaces. Give them credit. I am proud of what they are doing. There’s no need to probe,” he remarked.

He assured Nigerians that mechanisms have been put in place to address budget leakages and ensure that funds are utilized effectively.

Addressing inflation and economic growth, the President advocated for increased agricultural production and reduced reliance on imports.

“Produce more for consumption locally. Stop imports. Give farmers reasonable, low-interest rates and improve security so they can return to their farms,” he advised.

Tinubu also identified agriculture, marine ecosystems, and transportation as key sectors to drive job creation and reduce costs.

Reiterating his commitment to building a prosperous nation, Tinubu described the proposed 2025 budget as a “Budget of Hope” and called on Nigerians to support the government’s efforts.

“We are moving forward,” Tinubu declared. “The hallmark of a good leader is the ability to do what you have to do at the time it ought to be done.”
