Adeleke Approves Haastrup as Owa Obokun, Abikoye as Asaoni of Ora Igbomina

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has approved the appointments of Prince Adesuyi Haastrup as the new Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijeshaland and Prince Johnson Adekanmi Abikoye as the new Asaoni of Ora Igbomina.

The approval was announced in a press statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, following its ratification at the State Executive Council meeting held today under the chairmanship of Governor Adeleke.

Prince Haastrup’s appointment follows the passing of the former Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijeshaland, Oba (Dr.) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, on September 11, 2024. Similarly, Prince Abikoye’s selection as Asaoni of Ora Igbomina comes after the demise of Oba Tinuoye Atolagbe on November 19, 2023.

In the statement, Governor Adeleke congratulated the new monarchs, emphasizing that their selections adhered strictly to the provisions of the Osun State Chiefs' Law of 2002 (Cap 25). “I urge all sons and daughters of Ijeshaland and Ora Igbomina to support their new traditional rulers and ensure peace and unity take center stage in their communities,” the governor said.

During the council meeting, which marked the last of the year 2024, Governor Adeleke also passed a vote of confidence on members of the Osun State Executive Council. He commended their outstanding performance throughout the year and described their efforts as a testament to effective governance.

“I am extremely pleased with the work you have all done this year,” Governor Adeleke said. “However, I challenge every member of this council to surpass these achievements in 2025 by staying dedicated to their statutory duties and responsibilities.”
