Two OOU Students, One Other Die in Ogun Crash


A tragic auto accident on Friday afternoon along the Ilisan-Ago Iwoye road in Ogun State claimed the lives of two students from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, and another male passenger believed to be a student of the institution.

The deceased students were identified as Dada Oluwanifesimi, an 18-year-old Mass Communication undergraduate, and Miracle Ogo Oluwa Daniel, aged 19. The third victim, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was also pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, the accident involved a commercial Opel Safira with registration number LAGOS AAA-126HE. 

The vehicle, driven by Adekunle Adebiyi of 5 Sunmibare Street, Awa Ijebu, veered off the road into a ditch due to excessive speeding.

“A fatal motor accident occurred on December 20, 2024, at about 3:30 PM along the Ilisan-Ago Iwoye road. The incident involved a commercial vehicle driven at high speed, leading to a loss of control and a tragic crash into the bushes,” the police statement confirmed.

Eyewitnesses reported that two other OOU students who were passengers in the vehicle sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the university’s medical center on the Mini Campus.

"The loss of these young students is devastating, and we urge drivers to always adhere to speed limits to prevent such tragedies,” the police spokesperson added.

The bodies of Oluwanifesimi and Miracle were taken to Love and Care Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. The unidentified male passenger's remains have been deposited at the General Hospital Ijebu Ode mortuary.

The ill-fated vehicle has been recovered and is being held at the local police station as investigations continue.

This incident has left the OOU community and families of the victims in mourning, with calls for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations to avert similar occurrences.
